A wonderfully rare and characterful set of English equestrian folk art figures, circa 1930s, depicting three mounted riders and their horses, including a charming young rider accompanied by a pony.
Each vignette is rendered in painted, flat-cut wood and mounted on its original green base. The wonderfully stylized horses — from the dappled grey to the rich brown hunter — are paired with riders in traditional English riding attire, including a striking scarlet coat, top hat and checked cap.
Nearly a century later, the set retains remarkable charm and visual presence. Subtle surface wear and patina are consistent with age and only add to its appeal. Particularly special to find as a group of three related equestrian scenes, rather than as individual surviving figures.
A fabulous piece of English country history and an exceptional decorative collectible for an equestrian home, library, child’s room or sporting collection.
